Back At It

October 29th, 2009

*edit* sorry about the double post. We were just so incredibly excited to have something to post about that we couldn’t contain ourselves. Weeee.

On the road again and happy as can be to be with our good friends in Brand New & crew.  Set list is quite different as those of you who were at Austin last night witnessed, so I imagine it’ll take a bit more time for us to find our groove, but we’re excited about changing it up.  Lots of songs that have been previously ignored on the live front.  Hope to see everyone out there.  It’s sure to be a good time!

Teppei

Instead of the usual “playlist” that we usually do, I thought I’d change it up a bit. I’ve been digging the shuffle button on my iPod lately, so that’s what I’ll do. The first five songs my mini computeristic (yes I just made that word up) music storing pal picked for me:

Tom Waits – Watch Her Disappear, off of Alice
Radiohead – Faust Arp, off of In Rainbows
Department of Eagles – Waves of Rye, off of In Ear Park
Constantines – Tiger & Crane, off of Shine a Light
Miles Davis – Freddie Freeloader, off of Kind of Blue

Wow, that’s a solid playlist! I shoulda been actually listening to that.

kinda had a weird thought today…interesting tho.

i would to hear you’re guys rendition of a remix of silver wings.

not a classic remix like ATWIM and circles..but like make it a hard cover.

or it would be cool for a band like TDWP or ADTR to do one. something to really get in the pit to.

the last lines of the sonnet would be one epic ass breakdown.

  2. greg says:

    *your

    jeeeez failing today.

  3. Craig says:

Finally got a frame for my Beggars litho. Looks shweet.

  4. Neilc. says:

    Hey dustin,

Last year you came to houston around this time at the house of blues, it was on my birthday you gave my friend seth and I a booklist and we spoke of how the beer shiner bock was brewed in texas. Anyways, just a request and i hope you get this before you play tomorrow but please play Stand and feel your worth cause you said would :D no hard feelings if you dont though and talking through glass, itd be greatly appreeciated.

  5. Dave E. says:

I love you guys more than anything.

  6. dre says:

can you please play under a killing moon or paper tigers in myrtle beach!!!

  7. joey says:

whats with the hostility NK? you’re very passionate about hating on thrice songs

  8. Chris says:

I just wasted 45$ to see you guys in Dallas because the Palladium Ballroom cant get their times right… Doors at 8.00 does not mean Bands start playing before 8.00…
Will you guys be in DFW anytime soon, again?

  9. NK says:

@ Joey – No, I just feel passionately about Thrice, and I wasn’t really being hostile towards anyone.

I’m disappointed that a number of songs I don’t particularly care for are taking the place of songs I have been dying to hear. I know you can’t please everyone, which is why I feel a little silly whining, but what can I say.. I really want to hear those songs!

I don’t see why so many people feel the need to jump on me every time I voice a partially negative opinion on here.

  10. Connor G. says:

    @ NK

Because a lot of people here are blind sheep who will love everything with the Thrice nametag attached to it.

  11. Vince says:

    @ Connor G.

You make it sound like people are a bunch of brand-name whores. Some people, like me, just don’t have a list of Thrice songs I’d put under bad or unlistenable. I love Doublespeak, because it has a fantastic beginning and end, and also because it really has a bluesy feel.

My point is: don’t hate on other Thrice fans. It’s the equivalent of “you’re not a REAL, TRUE Thrice fan” and it’s only point is to piss people off. Respect is key.

  12. Michael says:

*Craig, you should share a pic of your framed litho. Had I gotten one, I would’ve done the same. I’d love to see how yours turned out.

Don’t know if anyone’s shared this yet, but I just discovered it. Thought people here would like to hear it:

  13. Joe says:

@Chris – It clearly stated on the ticket that it doors open at 7:00. Thrice started playing at about 7:50 or so. But man, their set list was so short, I was kinda disappointed. However, the songs they did play were so damn good, and we didn’t even stay for Brand New. I would post the setlist but I don’t think I remember every single song they played, but I’ll try.

    All the World is Mad
    The Weight
    Like Moths to Flame
    Of Dust And Nations
    The Arsonist
    Broken Lungs (maybe?)
    Doublespeak
    Silhouette
    Beggars

I was so into the performance, so don’t quote me exactly on the position of each song, especially in the middle of the set list. Disappointed they didn’t play Talking Through Glass, but this was my first time seeing Thrice, and I was just blown away at how good they were.

  14. Michael says:

Sorry, i should describe my links before posting. i prefer to know ahead of time what im going to be viewing. no weird surprises then. :]
anyway, it’s a rip of DK doing an acoustic of “All the World Is Mad.” interesting to hear it acoustically.

  15. Perri. says:

You should never ever have to apologise for a double post.

    The more the merrier! =D

    xxx

  16. lukee says:

i really want a copy of that acoustic cover. how would i attain such a thing?

  17. Geds says:

was that really Dustin Kensrue covering Thrice?

  18. Ashley says:

why do people have such a problem with them playing Helter Skelter? one of my favorite Thrice songs, i know its a cover, but its a damn good one. personally while i wish they would play talking through glass, i don’t care what they play, I’m taking a train and staying the night in another city to see them. They could do “twinkle twinkle little star” and I’ll still scream their name and have the time of my life.

its a fan made video for “in exile” i think its actually pretty good, just needs the guys :)

  20. Lindsay says:

    @Chris

Yeah, my boyfriend thought it started at 8, too, imagine our dismay when my brother called from within the Palladium and was like “Hey you guys Thrice is sound checking right now!” We were stuck in stop and go traffic at the Lamar st. exit. I apologized to my boyfriend, got out of the card and booked it all the way there, LOL. Now we know to always check the ticket’s time. Not too pleased with the Palladium right now.

Missed the first couple of songs but I managed to catch everything after Dust of Nations. My boyfriend only made it to see the last couple of songs. We still loved it, you guys! Hope you come back to DFW next year!

  21. Trevor says:

looking for some help: where are you guys buying tickets online? i’m looking to get one for the pittsburgh show…

  22. Lucian says:

Moths to Flame, the Arsonist and a song for Milly Michaelson and the new album what an amazing setlist. Hope thats the same set richmond gets.

  23. joey says:

sorry if i came off as rude in that comment NK, and no other guy below that, i am not sheep, i really would prefer they not play anything pre artist but they are still good songs for the genre… but by the thrice label you mentioned… i guess you may be right cause i have yet to dislike anything by thrice. cept the i’ve just seen a face cover they did when they were young… not too fond of that. eleanor rigby was gangster tho. for me tho that setlist is perfect for the time they had, i wish i had gotten my tickets like 2 months sooner tho cause la zona rosa in austin was sold out at least a month before the show :(

  24. joey says:

on another note i saw brand new at emo’s when straylight run and dangerous summer we’re playing there, woulda been amazing if someone from thrice was there, i woulda swallowed my pride and asked for a picture or handshake or something haha

  25. jm says:

I’m personally a big fan of the setlist. I think it’s something they’re probably going to enjoy playing more and the live videos look really good! Have the crowds been yelling deadbolt?

    Come back to Canada!!

    J-M

  26. Chris says:

@Joe: Some tickets said doors at 8… not only mine. And everywhere I looked online (last.fm and Palladium Ballroom) said 8 as well…

@Lindsey: I was stuck in that traffic jam at Lamar st. exit for about an hour, too. Traffic jammed up all the way to I-30 because of that…

  27. alex says:

    omg Like Moths to Flame

  28. Jp says:

    @trevor

If you’re referring to the headlining show at the Diesel in Pittsburgh, go to:

    http://www.jokerprod.com

Click on calendar and then scroll all the way down until you see the Thrice show.

If I didn’t live 4 hours away I’d be going to this show. The Dear Hunter, not to be confused with Deerhunter, is the best live band I’ve ever seen..hands down. Anyways, hope I could help.

  29. Joe says:

I must say my favorite song they did last night in Dallas had to be Of Dust and Nations. They just had the heaviest groove at the end of the song. I couldn’t help but smile. They also dominated on The Arsonist. Hell what am I saying, they rocked on every song.

  30. andy says:

ARE YOU GUYS COMING TO PORTLAND OREGON?

  31. Ben Basile says:

So it was nine songs… I couldn’t belive that was all. I know they weren’t headlining but when I saw them with Mewithoutyou and Brand New in San Antonio they weren’t headlining either but played twice as much. It was a let down. Although Brand New toatally rocked the house and I was impressed with them, I went for teh Thriiiiicceeeeee.

    All the World is Mad
    The Weight
    Like Moths to Flame
    Of Dust And Nations
    The Arsonist
    Song for Milly
    In Exhile
    Silhouette
    Beggars

Very glad with what songs they did play, though! I now have a new appreciation for The Arsonist.

  32. Michael says:

    Their Halloween costumes look awesome!

I wonder if they’ll play in those?

    So fun

  33. Aaron walker says:

    Shouldve played twice that set length guys…. A little upset…. : /

  34. Melissa? says:

    Halloween set list.
    All the world is mad
    the weight
    of dust and nations
    a song for milly michaelson(WOW!)
    doublespeak
    the arsonist (also wow)
    in exile
    silhouette
beggars (yes yes yes :) )

  35. trevor says:

    thanks jp.
i will be driving 6 hours! you can do iiiitt!!!

  36. Jenna says:

*sigh*….. Came out to dallas from san antonio to see you guys at palladium ballroom and missed it because of austin traffic! Only came in just in time to see brand new. It was a bummer… tho brand new was still cool. I guess next time.. :(

  37. scott says:

    @ trevor

get your ticket at ducatking.com. no rediculous handling fees and a portion goes to charity. i only paid $28 for mine when all was said and done, and they were $25 to begin with. you will have to make an account w them, but its worth it. the tickets are listed under brand new, unless youre going to one thrice is headlining.

@ everyone debating good/bad thrice songs

i agree w many that thrice does not have a bad song i can think of. they do, however, have songs that i skip from time to time. and that is how i gauge what i dont want to hear live from what i do.

    *rock on*

  38. Chris D Owen says:

Well, The Butchers and Builders didn’t play in Dallas like they were supposed to. My gf and my brother were stuck in traffic for an hour trying to get to the palladium. We thought we had at least until 8:30 until Thrice started playing but we didn’t know the butchers and the builders van broke down so they wouldn
t be playing Dallas. Imagine how upset I was when I walked in the palladium and heard the last 30 seconds of Beggars playing… I’m still kind of mad at my gf for not leaving sooner like I wanted to but there is no way she could’ve known about how backed up it was at Lamar. Either way, I hope Thrice come back for an actual headlining tour through Dallas or nearby soon. They have to make up for it! At least Brand New were awesome but most of the money I spent on the ticket was for seeing Thrice.

  39. Jenna says:

    Chris -

Lol, yeah I feel ya on that. I came in right before Brand New started :(

  40. RTCSP says:

Although expectedly disappointed in Nanaimo BC, I was still hoping against all odds they’d bust out a setlist like this:

    the messenger
    under a killing moon
    of dust and nations
    stare at the sun
    the beltsville crucible
    all that’s left
    motion isn’t meaning
    ultra blue
    the melting point of wax
    the whaler
    the artist in the ambulance
to awake and avenge the dead
don’t tell and we won’t ask
    deadbolt
    t&c

in that order. that would make for a good rock concert.

if i wanted to hear lounge-type, boring music (or as Thrice calls it, ‘groove oriented’ … which i find synonymous with ‘lack of ingenuity’) then i would listen to thievery corporation. they do it much better.

at least when thrice played fast music, their sound was mildly distinct and memorable.

don’t get me wrong, I love the alchemy index, minus water, daedalus being one of my favorites, regardless of how it didn’t make it on my ideal setlist, but Beggars, to thid date, is the only album i’ve ever downloaded from a band I loved, only to NOT buy it in stores on release day. if it felt like a waste of time downloading it, it is definitely a waste of money.

  41. RTCSP says:

I guess what I’m trying to say is… try harder next time? And happy halloween…

  42. benji's "The Forum Monitor" says:

Fuck this guy…. I dont think retards should be going to concerts anyways

  43. Matt says:

Missed you guys because the people who run the palladium are fucktards and gave a false start time. I hope you guys headline next time you go thrugh DFW.

  44. scott says:

    @ rtcsp

youe a dumbass… you say you like alchemy index minus water, but you only have two alchemy songs of the 24, one being from water. i hate you for trying to have an intelligent anti-modern thrice post and failing miseribly lacking continuity.

btw.. your setlist is rediculous. not one song from beggars. why are you even here?

    no *rock on* for you…

but to the other potential readers…

    *rock on*

  45. benji's "The Forum Monitor" says:

i love you scott… in a brotherly way… not in a gay way

  46. Tyler says:

    Props on the Tom Waits!

  47. Mariah says:

so, i think you should come back to australia, yes?
adelaide, to be precise :) your show last year was ridunkulously amazing. but i’d be pretty keen to see you again.. COME BACK THRICE!
