I’ll get the bad news out of the way first.
Teppei had to leave the tour last night due to a family emergency, and will not be playing with us for the next few shows (and possibly the rest of the tour.) We fully understand and support his decision to do so, and hope that you’ll be understanding as well. He started this tour knowing that this would be a possibility, and toughed it out for as long as he possibly could. Please send as many positive thoughts as you can muster in his, and his family’s direction.
The good news is that we have a few friends out here on tour who have stepped up, learned a few songs a piece, and will be joining us on stage to enable us to get through a full set, and help us get through this difficult time. The tour will continue as planned. It’ll just be a little different.
Thanks for your understanding and support during this time. We appreciate it.

I was thinking the same thing, haha. He mixed up the lines while singing Doublespeak in Richmond not too long ago. I’m sure it’s hard trying to remember the placement of all the lines, especially when you’re busy playing guitar too. Not to mention, who knows what else could’ve been on his mind?
I’m thankful for Thrice. A band that never gets old & never settles for what’s easy. Hope you all have a great holiday and break from touring.
for the record, night #1 at hob > night #2
not so much for the performance but rather the crowd. night 1 was lots of friendly people, didnt see one jerk the whole night. even the drunk guy that was warning people not to trample him when the show starts was for the most part nice about it
night number 2 brought in the bros, douchey “i come to shows to get drunk/talk/hit on girls” types, and people just looking to fight. it was a small minority of the crowd but damn. maybe i just got lucky the first night? all i know is i saw at least one fight, some asshole was aggressively stongarming me (in front of the sound booth, spikey hair, black shirt, drink in hand, purposely digging knuckles into my spine as hard as he could so i wouldnt touch “his girl” even though i was already trying my best not to), a couple in the front right that were more interested in “getting busy” in the pit while everyone around them looked on like wtf is this, some guy on the balcony outside making fun of the band and its fans (wtf were you doing there anyway?), and some girl in the pit who seemed like she’d never been to a show before (swearing at and flipping people off because they were getting in her personal space… in the pit)
again i stress it was a small minority of people, but they seemed to be equally dispersed among the crowd. made it hard to focus on the music. didnt at all seem like the normal thrice crowd tho there were still alot of awesome fun peoples
i was all smiles when i left, so take that for what its worth i guess. cant wait for next time!

assuming that the shots outside of the live footage were taken by you guys i think the video was more personal than ones you’ve done before (which is something i’ll gladly take over fancy). love the closing shot too, don’t know how you found time to do those time lapses while on tour but they were very cool. thanks for taking the time to do this!

Good observation. I really have no idea why those people are at thrice shows either. It would be very nice to be at one with people being legitimate fans of the band, who are there for nothing but the great show.
Maybe the people yelling T&C and Deadbolt could be prevented as well?

Thrice have been my favorite band since they released Vheissu, And you havent visit Sweden ONE time since that.
If you dont plans to tour here, i will travel to london to see you if some dates will come out.
but now it looks dark.
I honestly don’t think promoters/Thrice have the confidence in them successfully selling places out in Europe and that’s why they don’t come over. When they played the Electric Ballroom in London in August 08 it was half empty.
But then on the flipside, millions of US bands do small club tours and sell them out, so I’m just a a bit confused about it all.
Dark times.
They played as I just became a Thrice fan, so I missed ‘em… now they’re not coming… this is frustrating :/
they don´t have to plat big venues alone.
If they played smaller clubgigs with some intresting other band. I don´t think it would be difficult to sell them out.
Let say, Thrice and a band like circa survive, mewithoutyou or brand new. the other bands dont visit europe often even.
So that would make more than one fanbase come out to see them.
Could be succesfull.
Last year i saw Poison the well and Dillinger Escape Plan on the same bill, it was awesome!
And also last week i went to see the Eastpak Antidote Tour with The ghost of a thousand, four year strong, alexisonfire and Anti flag on the same bill. Pretty awesome.
I mean, there are plenty ways to do a succesful tour!

Well that would explain why they’ve made no mention of it, like normally anything that’s asked as often as the Europe/UK dates are asked about gets one of them to make a mention of it, even if it’s a “hang on guys, we’re working on it” or whatever. If there really is to be no tour til next years festivals then that is truly awful.
DUSTIN: Can you confirm either way please so at least we know and can try and get over the disappointment so it doesn’t totally ruin our christmas

as long as the thrice members are happy and healthy in their personal lives, everything is ok. it sucks for us europeans to not see one of our favourite bands, but they are just humans like us. if it would be any possible to come out here they would do it.

hey it was really self-centred of me to make a joke about no UK tour news ruining christmas when Teppei and others have got much bigger things hanging over them which may make the holiday season worse than usual so I’m sorry about that.

Yeah, it sure costs a lot, and I believe them, that they lose money while touring here, but i just don’t understand HOW?? Way smaller DIY bands can make it to Europe.
I’m totally with LikeLinus they need to hop on a great tour either as a headliner or support band with good bands. It’s not just a Thrice thing, but a lot of times, bands are coming here alone to play with local supports instead what they do in the States, where there are at least 2 decent well-known bands on the bill.
I totally stuffed my gullet over thanksgiving!!! woohooooooo and listened to thrice.

as someone suggested, go lossless, and if you’re going to run out of your ipod w/o any preamp/amplification, try Grado SR series… the more you can shell out, the better it’ll sound, but even the lowest (SR 60’s) sound amazing for rock.

I understand the guys have family things going on, which are all well and good, but I don’t feel ashamed to say that I am utterly disappointed that they’re not coming here next Spring.
At some point, you have to disconnect yourself from certain fandom. On one side of things, if Dustin is having a new baby, then that’s awesome and I would like to say congrats to you. But realistically, I personally have been dying to see this band in the UK for years and years (on their own tour) and it’s a kick in the nuts to have it set back once again.
I think a new blog post would be appropriate in this situation.

Loved the “in exile” video. The tone reminded me of what you said about “the whaler” in the vinyl notes, how hard it can be away from family and touring from place to place…you really captured that in the video.
Also, I found it hilarious how you responded to that guy at the HOB on the first night yelling song requests. You said something like, “I appreciate the sentiment behind your yelling, but…” Couldn’t hear the rest, but, haha, really got a laugh out of that.
of course it’s Dustin who’s having another kid. Those Christian weirdos don’t use contraception, they just spread their stuff around like peanut butter and jam really.
oh yeah, and the video for In Exile was okay, but the cinematography was a but blatant, and i felt like the video was trying too hard to look pretty, than it was to conveying anything the song is actually about… but then again i’m not a fan of beggars in the slighest, so maybe the “hey look we’re post-modern” photography was actually a good thing. either way it’s not as good as red sky, but all in all is a better music video. thrice is not a band with good videos in my opinion, but their songs are amazing so it balances out
