Day 4 UK

January 21st, 2010

We sleepily made our way to nearest coffee shop. The morning mission for coffee seems to be a necessary routine to start the day. I spent much of the walk rubbing the sleep from my eyes. I walked up to the door… pulled… pushed… nothing. There were plenty of people inside, “how could it be locked?” Hrmm… I tried pulling the other door… nothing… ummmm… Thankfully a kind lady inside opened the door for me. Yes, it was unlocked… you see the right door was entirely locked, and the left side was push to open! AAACK IT’S ALL BACKWARDS! Haha. Despite feeling a bit defeated I walked in a bit red… I blame it jet lag!
Apparently the coffee didn’t do much to wake me up, as I nicked my hand with a knife, right where I run it along the neck of my bass :/ ugh… what a weird day.

Despite mishaps before the show, it was another great concert. Much loudness and much sweatiness.
Thank you Manchester!
Love,
Ed

    First.

    See you (again) Saturday guys.

  2. Mark says:

What a show! Was expecting Academy 2, but was amazing to have a nice and intimate show at the Club. Thought Nate stepped in for Teppei so well (5 piece future band perhaps??)! The only thing missing for a Manchester gig was the re-introduction of Phoenix Ignition! Thanks for a great gig! Make sure you keep that promise and come back soon!

  3. Martyn says:

third, Looking forward to Nottingham – really hoping to run into you guys

  4. Rod says:

    What a show!

Come All You Weary and the rearranged version of A Song For Milly Michaelson were badass.

In Exile and All The World is Mad sounded epic!

And to open the gig with Of Dust And Nations blew my tiny little mind. It was truly incredible. The fact that it was Club Academy made it that bit more special!

I agree with Mark, call Nate in for a 5-piece! Do it! Do it!

    See you again soon guys.

    Much love to Teppei.

  5. Ben says:

Glad to hear everyones enjoying the shows so far! Can anyone post up a set list or an indication of what’s to come, having read Ed’s tweet about a small song pool with Nate I’m intrigued as to what we may get in the support set on saturday, having seen them play basically everything over the last 7 years it could be an interesting mix?

Just hope you’re picking local coffee Ed, if not, be sure of Costa over Starbucks!

  6. Sean E. says:

    @Martyn

I’ll be there and I’m hoping the same. Perhaps we should team up haha

  7. Shawn says:

When are we going to see some Canadian headlining dates?!

  8. Chris Hogg says:

Simly the best gig I have ever attended! Thrice were outstanding!I am little sore today though after a awesome pit.

Kinda gutted when I left though… My car was broken in to and my Ipod and radio was stolen even tho they were in a locked glove box… :( ah well they are only things I guess.

Once again cheers for an amazing gig!

  9. Trumtram says:

they played the following in leeds (not the right order):

    of dust and nations
    silhouette
    all the world is mad
    the weight
    helter skelter
    melting point of wax
    at the last
    hold fast hope
    deadbolt
    all that’s left
    the earth will shake
stare at the sun (just dustin with a little vote before between this and “come all you weary”)
    beggars
    song for milly michaelson
    in exile
    artist in the ambulance

Absolutely incredible in Manchester! So glad I managed to get right to the front, and although I got ridiculously crushed (I’m only 5ft y’see) it was definitely worth it. The set was great and I agree with the others, Nate was awesome! Was even worth sitting out in the carpark on my own in the cold since midday for 3 hours waiting for friends haha :) Just wish I’d have realised you guys had arrived before you went inside! Ah well, maybe next time I’ll be paying more attention and get to say hello! x

  17. Jonathon says:

I really like the picture That Ed posted. It’s so awesome…

  18. Brittany says:

    EDDIE!
I am a Californian living in London and I still have that same problem every day… It’s so annoying. I always think stores are closed and look so stupid.

OH… and I am so excited to see you boys for my sixth time on Saturday!! Thank you for coming to me while I’m here!!!

    I love you Thrice.

  19. Sharif says:

The gig last night was unreal. Ive waited years to see you guys and you did not disapoint. It was honestly the best gig i have ever been to. I loved the Milly arraignment. Record it and put it on the B-sides of the next album!! That would be awsome. Im wondering what cafe it was that you were in. The Gemini Cafe perhaps? I live behind it so it would be so cool to think you where in there haha. I just wish i knew and i would have came for a chat. Oh well maybe next time. Come back to the UK soon!!

  20. Andrew says:

For some reason….I can really relate to this post more than any other. So many times I’ve had weird days like you explained Ed. Yup!

  23. Michael says:

    23rd.
Thanks for the updates and pics.
    Take care, fellas.

  24. Joe says:

I wonder why they do not play Talking Through Glass at their shows….

It’s by far my favorite song on the album. I guess it doesn’t come out that great live, which is seems impossible! Since almost every Thrice song is beautiful live…

  25. Ryan says:

Love the pic. Glad you guys are having fun rocking the UK!

  26. benji's "the forum monitor" says:

You guys need to bail on Europe and come back home! We’ve had tornado warnings here in california!!! And it hailed here in Pomona today!!!

  27. Anthony says:

Desperately hope they unleash Of Dust Of Nations in Nottingham tonight. Favourite song of all time. by anyone.

By the sounds of things, Manchester was awesome. Gutted I couldn’t make it back, damn university deadlines… My home town as well. Gah! Cant wait for tonight though.

  28. Rob says:

I managed to film the whole set in Cardiff.

    Here’s In Exile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_P1zpK9v7E

Check my channel for the rest.

Hat’s off to Nate, did an awesome job.

  29. I Very much recognise what your stance in this topic is. However I may disagree on several of the finer aspects, I think you did an astounding job outlining it. Definitely beats needing to study it by myself. Appreciate it.
