Last Day UK (Wembley)

January 25th, 2010

What’s this sleep stuff about anyways…
I mean… with the jet lag and all we our sleep schedules were pretty out of whack (going to bed around 5 or 6am) and when you park at Wembley Arena (at around 8am) backstage you had better forget about sleep.
‘Cause building a stage apparently also involves throwing as much metal on the ground as possible in a giant echoing cement chamber. haha!

Quite alright though, it was a good morning to wake up early… hot showers and blazing interwubs were waiting for us inside.
It was nice to get up, make some breakfast tea, and observe the happenings of the world via the metaverse.
Gradually the Long Islanders (Brand New and GlassJaw) made there way to the arena and there was much hugs and jokes to be had.
We’ve all been excited about this show for a while… Good peeps, good hangs, good music!
My worries of another accident loomed in my mind but, we got through it all unscathed… The show was super fun, albeit a really short set.

Glassjaw

and Brand New

had amazing sets as well…

It was a great trip all in all…
We can’t thank Nate enough for his help filling in for Teppei… and for making the whole trip good fun and hangs.
I can’t wait to make our way back out there in the summer.
Thanks to all who came to support us, and live amongst the live music with us.
Special thanks again to Telegraphs and We Are The Ocean!

Love,
Ed

I was also worried about the Deftones/Thrice thing.

Especially here, where fans can be real blockheads.
Even though the Deftones have a mercurial sound their fans tend to be more on the metal side, as far as I can tell.

  2. Jarel says:

Hi, I ordered the Beggars vinyl last year and it still hasn’t come. Has anyone else had that problem?

  3. Chase says:

What Thrice song comes to mind (if any), from reading this verse?

    Matthew 16:24-28
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

I’m gonna be helping out teaching service on Sunday and this is the verse we are studying, focusing on God being in control. My pastor wants me to relate it to a Thrice song, so far I’ve thought of ‘Beggars’ & ‘At The Last’

    Any other opinions out there?

Chase – good verse; probably sums up my view of my own personal view of Christianity – that there are more important things than blatant & willingly slavery to pointless bodily desires. “What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?” IMO avoiding every whim is something everyone can appreciate. In that light, here are some songs it reminds me of, in no particular order:

The Messenger (which is reminiscent to Isaiah 6); Cold Cash, Colder Hearts, Digging My Own Grave, Blood Clots & Black Holes, Artist in the Ambulance, All the World is Mad, Doublespeak, That Hideous Strength, Music Box

I’m sure there are more but whatevs.

  5. Vince says:

    Chase–

probably The Weight of Glory is your best bet. Even has “take up the cross before your crown.”

  6. Ashley says:

    @chase

I agree 100% with Vince, thats what i was gonna say.

  7. niels says:

well, lets not forget that last.fm isn’t a reliable source, everyone can change everything on that site, like wikipedia. lets wait ’til the band confirms this! anyway, i want HEADLINE dates in germany! :)

  8. Nick C says:

Thrice fans on Last.fm… add me up: http://www.last.fm/user/good_bone

I work there and so can remove any bogus event pages if they do in-fact turn out to be bogus :)

  9. joe says:

any love for SD coming along in the future? :D

  10. ryan says:

    thrice dudes,
just saw the tour dates. no new york/boston = not cool. when will you guys be coming back to the northeast? or will you be hopping on the northeast leg of the manchester tour?

    -ryan

  11. Trems says:

Dudes, what gives? Again no east coast tour dates. I was out of the state when you came to MA last time with Alkaline Trio and missed ya. Its been so long since you came to Mass and again there are no tour dates here! I wanna see some of Beggars live before you move onto the next album. Please come during the summer at least. I miss you guys!

  12. Ryan says:

no florida dates makes me a sad panda.

  13. Ben says:

NO Texas dates!!! I think I am going to cry…

  14. Ben says:

But looking at the locations, there are a lot of places I haven’t seen them visit very often.

  15. Joey says:

Well no florida dates, so me and friends had to buy atlanta dates for both days. Hello 9 hour drive and crappy motel!

  16. Chase says:

    @Vince & Ashley
Yes, but that song is based from John 7:53-8:11, about the woman caught in adultery, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” I see what you are saying about the “take up your cross before your crown”, but I don’t know if the rest of the verse fits that song well.

    @A Different Kyle
I love the ‘Digging My Own Grave’ idea, don’t think I would have thought of that one.

  17. Corey Light says:

@joey I also have a 9 hour drive ahead of me for the Atlanta show haha

  18. Kyle says:

Please come back to South Carolina! I saw you guys at the Myrtle Beach HOB last November, and I’m dying to see you guys live again!

  19. A Different Kyle says:

Chase – no problem; hope your speech goes well. Do you ever follow the blog “Stuff Christians Like” (stuffchristianslike.net)? It seems to touch on that subject quite often . . . not to mention that it is extremely well written. I usually find it interesting, even during my occasional “atheism makes way more sense than religion” phases. Ha.

  20. Alex says:

I hope they try to up the NYC area sometime soon =\, i couldn’t catch them at Nassau in November and I was bummed about that.

For that matter at this point if they hit anywhere in the east coast vicinity I’ll make a road trip at this point. Whatever, two of the dudes are fathers so guess I can’t complain about it haha =P.

  21. Trent Sowl says:

I believe the main disadvantage of using ASP.Net here is that it sorta slows down the processing unlike PHP. Just what I’ve found to be true.
