Musics and Masons, Synthesizers and Barbarians

May 29th, 2010

Shoots! I getting all crazy-brains getting ready for this tour but, it’s not necessarily a bad thing…

We are starting off the first part of this tour with our friends We Barbarians. If you haven’t had a chance to check them you definitely should… they are playing the up the West Coast with us, starting in San Fran.
Last time we played at SF we played at the Regency Ballroom, which is also the location of the first date of this tour AND a former Free Mason lodge/hall… This venue is seriously spooky (haunted?)
Our old friend Doug, who was managing the venue showed us around the place, all that it had to offer, and what it used to be. It was Craziness!!
I’m not by any means a Mason buff or anything, but this place just left a bunch of questions in my brain. Everything made me curious… the mosaic seal on the floor in the front that members had to stomp on as they entered the building, to the theater upstairs with 32 scenes that were a part (from what I’ve been told) to act out some sort of ritual :/ , to the ridiculous, elaborately decorated but incredibly spooky(maybe because it was night time) design.
This place was weird, awesome, somewhat spooky and also amazingly beautiful…
I’m going to have to do some research before we go there again to start off the tour.

Speaking of research…
I’ve been experimenting in my room the mysterious ins and outs of my Dave Smith Prophet ‘08 synth (it probably sounds like I’m fighting some digial beasts), which will be coming out on tour with us replacing my old Nord Lead. I also need to build some sort of a road case for the beast.

I can’t wait, and I’m just happy to be back on the road in full force again,
the four of us… our amazing crew… and you guys :D

Love,
Edward

So excited for the Saskatoon show, just hoping the add a few songs of the water disc to that set list and then it’ll be perfect. Anyone know how much the setlist has changed so far from one show to another?

    wow….
cant wait for chicago on the 12th…driving in from winnipeg :D

  7. I’m beyond pumped to see that Stand and Feel Your Worth is making the setlist this tour. I only hope that Flags of Dawn gets played in Saskatoon on Wednesday.

  8. ryan says:

thrice – the set lists look incredible so far. hope to hear stand and feel your worth in nyc on the 24th. beers on me if this happens. :)

and riley, specifically – i’m a knicks fan, but I went to college in boston, so until lebron comes to his senses and signs with the knicks…LET’S GO CELTICS!!!

  9. Ashley says:

    ABOLITION OF MAN
    SILHOUETTE

omg I went to THE wrong show. *dies* asdfghjkl; that is omg amazing and yes I agree with @Roger, add The weight of glory and Talking through glass and you have nearly a perfect show.

  10. ryan says:

I really don’t think everybody is getting the point. It’s not every little song that we’re there to see, it’s the fact that we just want to see thrice, no matter what they play. right? It seems everyone gets too worked up about what they are going to play and when.

by the way, child of dust was awesome live.

  11. Ryan says:

i agree with ryan, i’ll admit i’m bummed to see some of the same songs they always play (AITA, doublespeak, in exile) but ultimately its always a great show and what songs they play becomes irrelevant to the performance.

  12. steve says:

they’re a band, not a jukebox (to quite riley). i trust their choice in song selection. if you’ve been keeping track of set lists, you should be pretty impressed

  13. Chase says:

    Ryan
How can you say you’re bummed to see Doublespeak and In Exile? This tour is for Beggars, why wouldn’t they play those?

Some people aren’t trying to tell them what to play, but it is cool to see that they are playing different songs than they did for the Alchemy Index tour, that’s all. I don’t know why people think that if they request a song Thrice will actually play it just for them, that’s just stupidity

    ALL MY THRICE HEADS!!

    really great video for Circles.

  15. Ryan says:

Chase, its not so much I dont want to hear those songs, but I’d rather hear stuff from beggars they haven’t played yet i.e. tracks 7-9, which are some of the best songs on that album imo. Also I hope I Want You starts showing up on the sets.

  16. Chase says:

    greg
    that’s an awesome video.

    ryan
yea I agree. they played talking in anaheim back in nov. I don’t know why they aren’t playin it now. Those songs would be pretty epic live tho

  17. Michael says:

Doesn’t seem like any setlist the band makes is good enough for anyone.
Almost perfect, just missing one song here or there, blah, blah, blah. How tiring that all gets.

  18. Lukas says:

Yes, well I can tell this setlist is super huge and super awesum… I hope once I see a Thrice concert they will play something similar good :D

  19. benji's "the forum monitor" says:

@ Michael…. Couldnt agree with you more.

  20. Aaron says:

@Michael and Benji……Totally agree with you both, that’s really all that needs to be said. The set list is what it is and I’m just thankful I get to see Thrice in concert day after tomorrow.

  21. Corey Light says:

@ Aaron Exactly man, I mean they’ve been playing 11 years now? I mean most bands don’t make it to half of that. I’ll scream like a little girl no matter what songs they play lol

  22. Mike says:

Anybody know who won the Vagrant contest? I’m guessing not me.

  23. Ashley says:

I’m not gonna lie, yeah sometimes the different set lists makes me jealous, some songs I am just dying to see. But no matter what I am there to see Thrice, to experience Thrice. It’s just sometimes I would love to have those moments with some other songs. Thats no crime.

No matter what, their show will always be brilliant even if they sang I’m a little tea pot.

  24. Chase says:

Kinda random, but anyone else think Dustin would do a sweet cover of Don McLean’s “American Pie”??? Heard it today and first thing I thought was DK could kill this song

  25. benji's "the forum monitor" says:

i will say though…. the best tour ive been to has to be the vheissu tour in Irvine. All almost all of vheissu, Artist, silhoutte, cold cash, deadbolt, kill me quickly, Abolition, to awake and avenge the dead, and closed it out with Stare at the sun with a string quartet… it was fucking amazing.

  26. drew says:

Edmonton show was wild guys! Thanks so much!

  27. princexero says:

Perfect setlist guys…a wonderful mix of old and new songs!!!

  28. Ashley says:

    @benji’s “the forum monitor”

omg, I think that might be the best setlist in the history of music.

  29. Lukas says:

Btw great acoustic version of In Exile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpV2qFOOjP4

  30. Tyler says:

    @Luka that was awesome…

  31. _Trems_ says:

Greg that video was fantastic. Nice work.

  32. WelshMatt says:

    That set list is superb

    I’m very jealous

  33. Roezell Riggs says:

hey guys! I’m living in Calgary and drove to Edmonton yesterday to see you! and drove back home this morning to se you guys again tonight! I’ve waited to see you for 5 yrs!! (last time was taste of chaos) I haven’t loved anything in the world as much as I love your music. I was standing right in front of ed last night (not the girl who was rudely flashing pix in his face all night :S ) I’m so glad you came to Canada to tour, cause I was guna pay $700 for a flight to the states to see you.. I swore I’d never get a tattoo in my life but recently (feb) i got one :s …but it totally worth it, cause it says Thrice. People was telling me to show it to you guys, but that I know isn’t possible. Anyways, can’t wait to see another good show tonight. And your very much loved here! xo

  34. Mattysesh says:

Lets see some of the latest setlists for whoever has them

  35. Ashly says:

I would just like to say that I just truly started to be a fan of Thrice and stumbled upon this website. I have done some back reading of the site and have to say that I am impressed with the band and their commitment to their fans. I also have to commend the fans for being supportive and understanding.

Please know that all 4 of you and your families shall be in my prayers from this point forward and am glad that things are pulling through for you all…but I also wanted to share some insight that just hit me…

The devil uses many tragedies to try an harm or hinder those that love the Lord God. He especially tries to harm those who are being effective for the kingdom. I would have to say that you are being very effective then.

Also, just a side note, I can’t wait to see you in Saskatoon tomorrow night!

    My Thoughts and Prayers,
    Ashly

  36. Charles says:

Whoa!!!! Guys, I won the grand prize in the Vagrant/Macbeth contest! This is crazy, totally crazy!

  37. Lukas says:

Congrats Charles :D Hope you enjoy every bit you’ve won :)

  38. Craig says:

Curious, I’m going to be buying tickets to either the California date at Fox Theater in Pomona or House of Blues in San Diego. Simply curious because my sister will be 17 so is she allowed in to House of Blues? Curious because of the alcohol there. Never been to Fox Theater so wouldn’t know.

  39. Chase says:

    Craig

HOB only checks id if you tell them you are 21 when they ask. they give out colored wrist bands at the entrance to distinguish people who want to buy alcohol. If she just says “no” when they ask, they will not check her id and she can just go in.
