Road Update 1

June 8th, 2010

Kicked off the tour with some fun shows up the west coast.  It was awesome having our buddies in We Barbarians out with us for those days.  I wish they were doing more.  Great band.  Check them out if you haven’t yet.  I’ve somehow been staying pretty busy.  I brought a moped out on tour and it’s been so key.  I’m no longer stuck to the near vicinity of the bus.  The most notable day so far has actually been the day off we just had.  Our tech Sangsouvanh aka “Ping”, our merch slinger Joey and I took a pretty sweet hike in the beautiful woods of British Columbia.  Best way to spend a day off.

saw you guys last night in st. paul. amazing show. loved the setlist. you guys have a really strong presence on stage. bad veins and the dig were pretty awesome too. I really enjoyed the dig. anyway, i brought a couple peeps to the show who weren’t very familiar with thrice. they fell in love instantly. the crowd was pretty awesome too. a lot of nice people around where i was. not the usual small venue crowd…dustin commented on how hot the stage was. i know. my band played there a month ago and it was the hottest stage i’ve ever been on. i could relate to riley’s misery right next to those lights, being a drummer. anyway, hope the rest of the tour goes well as planned. you guys are phenominal.

Hey thrice, just a couple of tips to help you enjoy your time in Montreal (if you do have free time)…

The”We Want Miles”: Miles Davis vs. Jazz Exhibition at the Fine Art Museum of Montreal is awesome, good vibe, lots of artefacts, music history…

The National is in the gay district, so if you want to wander throught the streets without being surrounded by homosexuality, you should walk a bit north to the Lafontaine Park(relax) or east around St-Denis Street(crowded)…

Otherwise the gay district offers a LOT of good and cheap restaurants…

anyhow, have fun on tour guys

14 hour drive from Winnipeg to Chicago….5 hours waiting…..90 minutes of Thrice….7 hours of sleep….13 hours home……best use of 41 hours I can think of

Set was amazing, venue was amazing, to awake and avenge the dead made my life.

  16. Corey Light says:

To Awake and Avenge- Full song from Detroit

  17. Ryan says:

does anyone else think wood & wire is one of the best songs on beggars? I never hear anyone talking about it, but its easily one of the top three for me. The chorus really does something for me, the simple melody along with dustin’s vocals has a very powerful vibe to it. thoughts?

  18. Lukas says:

Yes, Ryan… the good thing about Beggars is that it’s a real “grower”… there are times every few weeks/months where I think that every song is the best…

  19. Ryan says:

i agree with that lukas, I’m going through that right now with The Great Exchange.

  20. Chase says:

Wood & Wire is really amazing (yes like every other song)

that to awake vid is great quality. whoever posted it also posted like 9 others from detroit.

  21. Ty says:

No Deadbolt on this tour? Man I never get tired of seeing that song live.

Deadbolt in Toronto please!!!! Im sure you have played it to death. So its a request.

Cheers, see ya tomorrow night at the Phoenix

  22. Dave the Pirrrrate!!! says:

Wood & Wire is my favorite song off of Beggars, That release at the end is simply beautiful imo

  23. Dave the Pirrrrate!!! says:

and YES!!!! To AWAKE!!! Thanks Thrice for putting that back in your setlist :)

  24. Kyle the Sunburned victim says:

love the set list, would kill for some “Come all you weary”, “Deadbolt” or “All that’s left” to be thrown in there. See you tommorow.

  25. Jeremiah says:

I got lucky and got to see them play in Portland and in Seattle. They had a GREAT lineup! In Portland they did play Come All You Weary, not Deadbolt though. I was excited to hear Of Dust and Nations (my fave song!) and The Weight. Funny story though, Dustin forgot the lyrics real quick on In Exile. He paused for a second and then picked it back up with the song as if it was supposed to be like that. Made me smile and realize that Dustin is human too :)

  26. r1vers says:

epic from chain reaction back in ‘01…very interesting to see them w/o tattoos now :)

Going to the show tonight in Toronto!! 2nd time seeing you guys cant wait! Im excited to hear.. well the whole thing.. and “To Awake & Cold Cash!! and some new merch!

  30. Mattysesh says:

Its awesome that even though the guys havent played songs like to awake and image of the invisble in a long time they sound better than ever, and like always, sound 10 times better live than the album.

The show I saw was so amazing that I’m very tempted to catch a flight to Vegas in July for their show there, and then lose all of my money shortly there after. NOt that I need any more convincing to go to Vegas, but with Thrice there…ftw

  31. Chris says:

Going to the Boston show on Thurs for my bachelor party!! Super pumped to see you guys, please please play Flags of Dawn :-) !!!!

    Chris

  33. Felix says:

Yay got my deluxe edition on Vhiessu in the mail today! Read all the liner notes while listening to the whole album back to back. Pretty darn sweet package!

  34. Hugo says:

It’s very hard to “choose”, but owning Beggars from day one, I’d say Wood & Wire is the best song on Beggars. It’s intense, serene, and emotional.

  35. Ryan says:

i agree completely hugo, great description. Plus the drums are oh so groovy.

  36. Darrell says:

  41. Claire says:

The Black Keys are going to perform in my city, in France. I don’t know them but I will have a little thought for Teppei when they will play this song:D

  42. Claire says:

Brothers is the name of the full album.. Ok… Hahem! ^^’

  43. Scotty says:

that wonderful hike you guys went on was in Revelstoke! :D i grew up there. it’s beautiful and beyond!

hope you guys had a blast

  44. Gracie says:

What camera was used to take those photos? They’re beautiful!

  45. Braden says:

Wow where do I begin?!? Well starting off it was truly a Blessing in disguise getting to come back home to Indiana on medical leave from Germany in the month of June!! Ever since Beggars was released I really hope to catch a show with some of its songs once I made it back home, whenever that was. There’s now way I woulda guessed it being so soon and with the poeple that I did!

The girl I was “getting to know” at that time had never really heard of Thrice and I was actually introduced to Thrice by my brother-in-law, jeremy back when I was in High School. My girl Abby, brother-in-law Jeremy, sister Annalyse and I were able to make it to the show in chi-town and WOW! That’s all I can start off with!! I was able to get special seating right at the edge of the balchony over looking the stage and it was incredible. Not only did I rock out and have a blast, but the set-list alone really brought me back to some times in my life. A lot of the songs played helped me through some tough times and have really kept me honest about my faith and devotion to God!

Other than the idiot and his girl standing right behind acting like complete a-holes to kevin and his band, bad veins and the dig and the constant stumbling into us, we had a blast!! Thrice, if ya’ll reading this I know you prob. get this a lot, but thank you so much for taking advantage of the Blessings God has given you and making the music you do! There arent a lot of bands, let alone people out there who are willing to profess and proclaim the faith and values you all do. Thank you for being the people you are and helping a lot of my fellow brothers-in-arms throughout our career’s and lives with your inspiring words! Can’t wait to see you guys play again and maybe even meet ya’ll one day here on earth.

    Your Brother In Christ,
    Braden
