ROAD UPDATE 2

June 16th, 2010

Greetings from Montreal. It’s taken us a while to get here, but we’re a couple shows into having the entire package out here (Kevin Devine, Bad Veins, and The Dig) and it’s going great. Quality people, great bands, and a really eclectic bill. The next five weeks are going to be great. I’m really enjoying getting to know these guys and having the opportunity to watch them play every night. I’d advise getting to these shows early, because The Dig are an awesome band, and Bad Veins are as good, if not better, live as they are on record. I’m sure a lot of you are familiar with Kevin and his band already, but I’d only seen them live once before, and I’ve been really impressed with how great their sets are every night.

Last night in Toronto was easily the best show of the tour thus far…a packed house, and an enthusiastic crowd for all four bands. You really can’t ask for much more. The bar has been set. Thank you Toronto.

My first column for OC Weekly was posted yesterday, for those of you that might be interested. I’ll be contributing Three Things every week until they tell me not to.

Tomorrow in Boston is bound to be pretty crazy. Game 7 of the Finals in enemy territory. It’ll be insane, no matter what the outcome ends up being. I’ll either be the happiest guy in a Lakers t-shirt Boston (and terrified for my life), or the most bummed guy in a sea of ecstatic and drunk Celtics and Red Sox fans on Landsdowne Street. Oh. Boy.

Go Lakers,

-riley

very excited. try to stay a little towards the back or side, because people can get crazy during certain songs. but seriously, they’re the best live. it completely blew me away, and even strapped for cash i’m paying and driving to see them next monday. it’s going to be phenomenal, and you’re in for a treat sir.

congrats!! Its quite an experience, especially the first time.. I was a fan of thrice when I saw them at warped tour for the first time years ago but that instant they became my favorite band. I now see them as much as possible. I’m flying to florida to see them in Orlando and Miami!

How was Korea? military brat? :)

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I was out there in the pit in Toronto. It might have been the best show yet for you guys but it certainly was the best show yet for me. I haven’t been a fan for that long (a couple years now I guess) but I’ve gotten into all your stuff (old and new). I just want to say that I appreciate your lyrical depth and your unashamed mixture of faith and reality. You guys continue to push your own lyrical and musical boundaries; exploring new places and sounds. That is what music is. Music is a progression, a regression, a change of surroundings, it is not a standing still. Thank you for not standing still.

i am definitely excited, actually going with both my roommates who moved here from korea with me as well. all big fans of thrice, and even though our music sounds nothing like thrice, they inspired us to play. and yah, all of us are military brats, but we actually went to school through 1st-12th grade and then moved to texas. and thanks for the advice vince, i read about alot of the rowdy fans and although i’m all for getting into the music, definitely don’t like ruining it for other people. as for the setlists i would be happy with any set they played but they seem to have been playing alot of my favorite songs
