When we were in Boston a couple weeks ago, we had the opportunity to get a personal “behind the scenes” tour of the USS Constitution. We were allowed to see parts of the ship that aren’t normally open to civilians, which needless to say, was a really cool experience. Great to see a piece of history like that. The USS Constitution, for those who don’t know, is the oldest fully commissioned naval ship in the world — launched in 1797, and being named by George Washington himself, it was one of the 6 ships authorized to be built by the Naval Act of 1794. The ship has a perfect battle record, never being boarded or defeated and earning itself the nickname “Old Ironsides”. Badass. Special thanks to PR2 Jason Keith for setting us up and giving us the tour.

Second set of pictures are from Louis’ Lunch as well as some random Yale architecture in New Haven, CT. Proclaimed to be the birthplace of the hamburger, Louis’ still serve their original burger on toasted white bread and no condiments whatsoever (and don’t ask, there’s even signs). Coolest thing about the place was the fact that they still cook their burgers on the original cast iron, vertical loading grills that supposedly birthed the hamburger. Neat.

Awesome pics guys!
After seeing all of these great pictures, I realized that I wanted to hear the following songs in Pomona: Under a Killing Moon, Cold Cash, Stand and Feel Your Worth, and Red Sky
I want to hear Under a Killing Moon the most because I saw a 2003 video of them playing it in Pomona and it was so epic. It would be awesome to see you guys do it again at the Fox Theater

Has anyone else wondered why they haven’t tried playing Talking Through Glass live? Just seems like it would be such a great live song.
Has anyone heard latest Norma Jean record? I’m not sure if it was intentional but song “A Media Friendly Turn For The Worse” sounds just like “Under the killing moon” with some changes;/
@Joe: They have done it like once
@Roger: Aye… 08 they even had a show in Münster, I guess this time it’s gonna be short tour :/
Lukas
Seriously, Talking Through Glass is my favorite song off Beggars and I’d love to see it live. I wonder if anyone filmed it when they played it? I doubt it.
I’ve been a fan since 2001, but never got to see you guys play live before. I’m interning in Austin and pounced on the chance as soon as the gig was announced. The show was an awesome experience, and I have to say it was kind of bizarre to see people in the flesh that you’ve followed for almost ten years via digital media.
It really kind of blew me away that despite Dustin literally almost having his face melted off because of constant electrical mic shock, and a smattering of crowd members shouting for “deadbolt” (the new freebird..) at every opportunity, the band carried itself humbly and professionally, showing true appreciation to its fans both new and old. Although I wasn’t fond of being sucked into a violent mosh pit that beat myself and tiny girls into a pulp (listen, I’m a 25 year old grad student intern who works for a water utility..not a ufc fighter
), being there was an amazing experience.
I’ve never felt compelled to write a message before, but I just want to end with saying I truly appreciate all of your music, and as a person who really wants to make a difference the Beggars album has been sort of a personal battle cry. The lyrics of this album are incredibly personal to me. For as long as Thrice is a band and continues to enjoy releasing new music, I will happily support/purchase/listen to a band that I see as being a model for others to follow.
Keep it up and most of all, thank you.
@R. Yes I totally noticed that haha I thought I would be the only one that did! there are a bunch of parts that sound so alike…
Thanks for coming to KC guys!!! Last night show was amazing…..best set I’ve ever seen from you guys…thanks for playing Beggars!
Hey guys,
I just want to start off by saying that I have never disliked any piece of music you guys have writen. Beggars is my biggest inspiration, it has helped me through many tough times. If you can recal, the last time you guys came to New Orleans i was in the front row, and Riley tossed his stick to me. I own EVERY Thrice album and it would be a pleasure meeting you guys so you can sign my copy of Beggars.
just a HUGE fan,
-Thomas
wow, just gave a listen to that Norma Jean song, how ridiculous is this???
They played Talking Through Glass in Anaheim back in November. It was awesome. I have looked a lot on youtube and haven’t seen any vids. very strange, but yeah it is amazing
lol wow. listened to that norma jean song. It should be labeled as a cover. Craziness. If it gets more recognition than under a killing moon im going to be pissed.
@Sean: ha, I think I will be blown away once I see one of them in reality as well o0
Lukas
I listened to the norma jean song….I honestly dont hear the similarity..and I’d say I know UAKM inside and out…is it the lyrics? I couldnt really tell what the dude was yelling
Yeah, that Norma Jean is BARELY different enough to be called an original.
Whatever…such is life.
@Joe
I’ve seen it live. Pretty sure it was chicago in november. it was fun, but they didn’t play the outro. Kind of depressing.
I’m angry that I missed you guys on this tour >:|
So I decided to get a tattoo, it’s nothing cool and artsy though…
I hope you guys know that I’m deathly afraid of needles and I sat through an hour and a half of bitchin’ pain to get this done, but that’s O.K. because I love you guys this much.
Please tour again in the fall. K? Thanks <3

I have a question? What design was chosen for the t shirt contest, and does anyone have a pic? I wish I could go to this tour it sounds awesome.
@Mar – great tattoo, good choice.
Ok, Hamburg gig in support of Blink 182 is confirmed *sigh* :/
Lukas
i just had to say i went to the denver show last nite. 7.11 it was awesome. i first heard of you guys thru my boyfriend (now ex) and i actually took him to the show w/ me. and it was great that we could do that together. i fell in love first w/ digital sea and then got offically hooked w/ stare at the sun. i love the message you put out there and the way it all makes sense! ur the kinda band thats few and far between, hard to come by these days. i needed to clear my head and ur show helped me do just that. and i thank you for that. not sure if this’ll get to the band but i couldnt figure out any other way to write ya. thanks again guys. much love -sam
Geeze man all you Euros do is bitch bitch bitch about all the friken shows you do or don’t get. There playing at a festival Blink is headlining…omg! so sad for you. who cares who they are playing with, as long as thrice is playing I don’t care if hannah montana is headlining.
or pay for them to ship all their gear over the Atlantic, either way, you guys are rivaling deadbolt requesters in the level of annoyingness.
I don’t know if you noticed, but Europe is pretty far away from the states, and not always the easiest to travel to, So either move to the US like a normal person
I look foward to your letters (craig ferguson anyone?)
Jonathan G, hope this is helpful:

Hey guys. Thank’s again for the chance to show you guys around a bit! I am glad you enjoyed the ship and remember, you should all keep the coins I gave you. If you are out drinking and you slam it on the table everyone has to. The one that doesn’t have theirs has to buy the round!! It’s one of those fun Navy traditions we aren’t supposed to advertise!!! Enjoy your tour guys and come back some day. The roof is off the ship and we are starting to look normal again!! See you again!! HUZZAAAAA!!!
@Chase are you sure they played talking through glass in anaheim?
i dont recall anyone saying anything and i dont havent seen any videos. i was there the second night and they for sure didnt play it.
Absolutely sure. I was there both nights and I remember the 24th (first night) they played it. They also played Circles that night for the first time. I remember Riley starting it off with the drums and I was kinda like “what song is this?” (cuz I wasn’t expecting it), DK also played a bit of the “we move like swing sets” riff at the end, but ed didn’t sing.
I know someone else on here mentioned this, but I have no clue why there are no vids!
If anyone has a video of Talking Through Glass, PLEASE post a link. Saw them in Dallas back on Thursday. I didn’t expect them to play it but at least they played Helter Skelter during the encore. If there was any possible way to make that show better than it already was, that was it.
@Chase: Now imagine you didn’t see a Thrice show in like forever… you don’t want a show which is like 30 minutes right?
Lukas
@chase boo you on behalf of ze complaining germanz
The UK gets a healthy amount of Thrice visits considering our proximity – 2 in 2010 – probably thanks to the fact the shows tend to be full, hence us lot only ever hassling for when the dates will be, rather than having them at all.
Whilst I understand you may find it annoying that our mainland European chums often are asking/begging for more Thrice headline shows so they can appreciate a fuller set without Blink fans standing around waiting for their heroes to come on, maybe the band themselves will appreciate the fact that such passion for their band exists so far afield and if they’re not to “complain” about it on this board, how else would you suggest they go about making it clear to the band members that they are appreciated in these climbs? (and yes, the ovious way to point this out is record sales).
Instead of allowing it to irk you so much, perhaps just feel sorry for them that they’re not “normal” in your interpretation of the word, and don’t live in the US, and don’t have ready access to Thrice. Show them the same tolerance that we have to show people who think Thrice are a Juke Box, and scoll down past their comments the same way as we bite our tongues at shows when there are shouts for “deadbeat”. Though that don’t happen in the UK
@ Tom
Right, no “deadbeat” shouts in europe=)
I just hope for one headline date in germany on monday…
@Lukas
Hast du ICQ?
Can anyone else that isn’t German ever hear the words “Hast” or “Du” in a sentence without thinking of Rammstein?
XD
@Roger: Yop 282719466…
Lukas
I’m just disappointed because I can’t see them headline a show this year. I’m NOT disappointed because of the band not doing headline shows or even mad at them at all. Chances were pretty good that they would do some club shows, but oh well.
Sorry if my posts did bother anyone around here, that was not my intention.
Hey trumtram, don’t you apologise at all, it’s great that this band inspires the same level of passion all around the world.
@chase
man thats so awesome.i would do anything to see it live even a video would be awesome.
but yeah the night i went they didnt play that or circles the only new songs they played were all the world is mad,the weight,at the last,and beggars.
I love Boston! I grew up in New England and then moved to Southern California, although I love California, nothing beats old New England history. If you ever get a chance walk the “Freedom Trail” It takes you by all the super cool historical awesome nerdy stuff.
Thanks for the post! I appreciated this TV series ever since I was a youngster and own most seasons on DVD!
Ive been on “old ironsides”.
It was pretty badass
